Cultivating Connection and Love

Consider the possibility that you are not you. Or rather that you are not the little self you perceive yourself to be, with your small story and passing struggles. Consider the possibility that you are an instrument of the greater You of the universe, of the vital energy that stretches through the cosmos, reaching all the way back to the beginning and all the way forward to forever.

There comes a time in our lives when at last we sense such allegiance with the world. We sense more deeply not just the ever-changing play of life but also some greater field of consciousness that flows through us all. We enter into a new relationship with life. On one level, we exist as we always have, in our bodies and in our minds. At the same time, we find ourselves in deep communion with all life everywhere. Sometimes we even settle into a place where small self slips away entirely, for at least a little while. Only big mind remains.

As we embrace this broader sense of self, this deep connection with the wider world, our lives change. We begin to live in deeper allegiance with all beings everywhere. We grow into caretakers not just of our own lives, but of all of creation.

And this plugs us in to some greater source of strength and vitality, which grants us newfound commitment and fearlessness. We can no longer hide our strength and our love. Our faith in ourselves and the world grows unshakeable. We resolve to live boldly, to reclaim our birthright as a potent and beautiful messenger of life. We know we must act on behalf of all, and in particular on behalf of those who have struggle to find their own voices, their freedom, their light.

In the days ahead, let's reclaim our larger lives. Let’s stretch into the enormity of our beings. Let’s invite the vitality of the greater world to flow through us. Let's move beyond small-minded selfishness and - as much as we can, through our choices, small and large - and act in a spirit of unity and love. Let's cultivate the energy and courage that allows us to live in that broader circle of life, taking on all beings as kin. Together we’ll widen our family circle until it envelops everyone, everywhere, forever.
