We already have everything we need. We are surrounded by love and light in all directions. We have deep resources of vitality and strength within us that carry us through each day. We do not need a single extra thing to be happy, right here and right now.
Sure, we sometimes get stuck in the mindset of not-enough. We see others who seem to have more. We occasionally face frustrations and obstacles. We live in a world hellbent on convincing us that with a little bit extra - just the right home, the right job, the right vacation - we might arrive in the land of perfect peace.
We're wiser than that, though. We see through the folly that tells us we need more. We see beyond the superficial and into the true depths of our lives. We rest our minds in an attitude of abundance, of enough for all.
We have a body that carries us through life. We have eyes to see and ears to hear, hands to reach out and legs to stand on. Lungs to fuel us with fresh air. A voice to speak the truth. A mind that chooses to incline itself toward the light. And love, of course, in great abundance, to hold us all together. We are surrounded by beauties and amazements and even, from time to time, outright miracles.
Let's incline our minds toward the land of plenty we've been given, instead of straying toward the despair of not enough. Let's spend at least a few moments each day counting our blessings, marveling at the enduring abundance in our lives. Let's rejoice and then rejoice some more. For surely, when we live in a spirit of plenty, we always have plenty enough.
We could complain. Our body could carry us with a little more ease, perhaps, and our mind could long for exemption from the sorrows that come with every body and every life. We could ask for more. But what good will it do? Does the world really need more contraction, more grasping, more grumbling?
Of course not. The world needs eyes that can see the small wonders that surround us and ears that can delight in the symphony of life. The world needs contented hearts who sing the praises of this world. The world needs awakened eyes that see through delusion and into the perfection that we share. The world needs souls strong enough to practice happiness, right here and right now, even amid the sorrows of our lives.
And what is the natural impulse, when we live in a spirit of bounty? To share this bright possibility with everyone around us. To help restore vision to those around us whose eyes are too tired to see clearly the beauties that abound. To ease the ache of "not enough" when we sense it in the hearts of others. To bring the spirit of abundance to everyone everywhere, so that we may live in contentment and deep peace.
