Mindful Movement

A Complete Yoga Session

Years ago I created a guided audio CD called Mindful Movement so that my friends and students could enjoy a full-length yoga practice any place and any time. The 72-minute practice begins with a mini-savasana, then moves through reclined stretches, core strengtheners, standing poses, seated postures and a full-length savasana.

I’m happy to share the full guided audio session here. It is a departure from most of the practices I share and is more typical of the way I practiced and taught 20 years ago. It is stronger and more challenging, and it offers yoga postures in a more structured, conventional, step-by-step format.

These days I’m much less interested in creating a yoga pose that looks like “the perfect pose” shared online and in books. I’m much less interested in letting others tell me how to move or breathe or think or be. In general - thankfully - I’m much less interested in perfection in any form.

Instead, I am fascinated by the inner exploration that yoga and other practices lead us toward. I’m more interested in authenticity and on inner listening. I’m more determined than ever to be led by my own inner teacher and inner truths. And I am more committed to using the practices in service to my deepest aim: to help create a world that eases suffering and spreads love for all beings everywhere.

Still, every once in a while I enjoy the challenge of a strong triangle pose. Every once in a while I need to feel strong and bright and full of vigor. Sometimes it feels really good to just climb back into the muscles and the bones, to clear away the tightness and stickiness within, to reclaim deep sustenance and power.

If you happen to feel that way, too, I hope you might enjoy gliding through this practice from time to time.
